Solar Skylight Shades

Did you know that custom solar screen shade panels can be made to fit any skylight or overhead glass application? Solar screens block the sun without blocking the view, so fixed applications offer an affordable solution for some of the hardest windows to treat. Solar Skylight Screens provide glare control for large overhead glass areas. Fixed skylight solar shades provide an affordable option for controlling glare and heat in single skylights; they are made with a spring tension rod at the top and bottom of the shade panels. Intermediate spring rods can be added to support longer glass openings.

Fixed shades provide a low-cost alternative to expensive overhead shading systems and still provide the heat and glare control required without eliminating some natural daylight.

Fixed Solar Shade for single skylights in residences can be installed and removed seasonally if more sunlight is desired in the winter for heat gain.

Solar Roller Shade Solution with an Arch Window

6/22/2015

We recently completed a project for a customer with a unique problem.  This particular project's challenge was how to deal with a very hot East facing window in Arizona.  During breakfast the kitchen was very uncomfortable and the bright glaring light was intense.

The "before" - the window contained an old wood blind on the standard part of the window with the arch portion uncovered.  This meant that the arch was super hot and the bottom was closed during the morning.  To make this more challenging, the East side of the house faces a very beautiful mature park, so the view is the "money shot."  One more consideration, the customer preferred a light and open feel in the kitchen work space.

We discussed fully louvered shutters, but decided they were too obstructive of the view and light.  We discussed a wood blind with a wood arch above, but decided they also were too obstructive and comparatively expensive.  Cell shade arches were a serious consideration, but they still obstructed the view all morning and provided a permanent block of the view through the arch.

So after much debate, this customer choose to purchase an outside mount solar roller shade in an alpaca charcoal color to maximize view.  Additionally a 5% openness was chosen to control the glare and heat.  To make it less noticeable, they choose a wall matching vanilla fascia.

The result exceeded expectations.  The problems with the window were all solved and the park view is not only preserved but has been enhanced throughout the day.  The heat s no longer an issue and the window never had a privacy issue, so no concern has arisen.  Additionally, this was one of the most affordable options available.

Outdoor Solar Roller Shade Project in Chandler, AZ

This is a project that we are particularly proud of.  I know pride comes before a fall, so this is not that kind of pride, but rather that good feeling you get when something you worked on really turns out nice - that sense of a job well done.

Anyway, this customer needed east and west coverage for an outdoor patio.  The patio openings were very large and so designing a solution that would work well, look beautiful and be durable required knowing what vendor and solution would work best.

We landed on a 5% solar screen in a charcoal apricot color.  This means that 95% of the uncomfortable UV rays would be blocked.  We then added a top cover and front fascia for that finished look and to protect the product from the elements, we choose all upgraded, exterior rated hardware.  And finally, we added an upgraded spring assist mechanism designed to help reduce weight and wear when raising large heavy solar roller shades.

The end result was a very nice application which will add hours of extra outdoor enjoyment to this patio.

We would love to help you with your exterior roller shade project.  Also, for a rough estimate of what this project might cost, please check out our online roller shade cost calculator.

Solar Roller Shade Project for Chipolte Mexican Restaurant

These are the pictures of our latest Chipolte Mexican Restaurant job completed in the little town of Maricopa, Arizona.  This restaurant has West and South facing windows so even with the air conditioning on the space was very uncomfortable.  The combination of overly intense light and heat was even wearing on the construction crews who needed to work on the build-out.  Needless to say, the workers were happy to see us.

The pictures you see here were taken at 9am, and you could already see the glare building.  Without our solar roller shades, this restaurant would have been unbearable for diners and as such, mostly empty.

The screen fabric was a perfect fit.  The slight light gap you see in the pictures are only observable with a camera at extreme angles.  The actual look to the natural eye is one of perfect coverage - clean - modern - and view enhancing.

We would love to work with you on your next solar roller shade project.  Also, please check out our online roller shade cost calculator for a rough idea of what your project may cost.

This video represents a job done by an industry friend in Dallas Texas.  We both use the same vendor for these types of jobs, and as such, can provide the same type of result.  We think this is really cool and the wave of the future for interior window covering design.

So, enjoy the video and dream about having us do this for you - here in Arizona.
