Single roller shades are available up to 16' wide x 8' tall and 7' wide x 19' tall in a single shade.  We can provide cost-effective motorized shades on a single motor up to 300" wide.  Larger shades in certain fabrics may be available upon request.

Motorized Shade Panel Configurations:

Our roller shades can be made as single panel, multi-panel, and coupled motorized window shades.  See the diagram below.  Please kindly note the fabric deductions which create gaps at the sides of the opening and where the shades meet.

Roller Shade Project in a Weinerschnitzel

1/24/2016

The pictures above are from a recent roller shade project for a Weinerschnitzel restaurant.  The East facing windows (4ea) had really old roller shades which were completely unusable and made the restaurant look old. The West facing window (1ea) was completely uncovered and as such the customers and employees were brutalized by the sun every afternoon.  The West facing window shown directly on the main order counter for the restaurant.

As you can imagine, this was an untenable situation.  However, after replacing the East facing windows with a simple cream colored solar roller fabric with a matching facscia and likewise covering the West window with the same type of roller fabric and fascia, we saw a transformation of their space.

The restaurant now looks newer, cleaner, and is far more comfortable for customer and employees.  It was a real pleasure to be part of a relatively simple, yet profound, transformation of this standby food establishment.

We would love to help you find the right roller shade for your restaurant application.  Also, be sure to check out our online roller shade calculator for a rough idea of what your project might cost.  Or, please use this contact form to describe your project with rough sizes, and we will gladly email you a rough estimate.

A New Standard for Child Safety

1/10/2016

Being in and around the window covering covering industry for more than 15 years I can never go to a restaurant or coffee shop without noticing their blinds.  These days most of the restaurants are transitioning to solar roller shades, though some are still clinging to the wood blind look.  However, just focusing on those who have moved to solar roller shades, I am shocked to see cord loops handing loose with no safety consideration.  Or, if they do have a safety hold-down it is some brittle plastic half loop that looks like it is about to break at any minute.

I suppose restaurateurs do not realize the liability and safety concern that arise from a poorly designed or absent hold down for a cord loop on its roller shades.  In fact the blinds I saw just yesterday were inside two well known national restaurant chains.

So, if you own a restaurant, or any public establishment with blinds, please know there is an option.  For instance, my vendor of choice for roller shades, Insolroll, opines, "We have created a durable child safety roller shade solution that is compliant with the new American National Standard for Safety of Corded Window Covering Products (ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2012). We provide cord-free, single cord pull, continuous bead chain pull, and motorized roller shades that meet and exceed new standard implemented by a joint effort of the Window Covering Manufacturers Association and the Consumer Product Safety Commission. For instance, the Insolroll Metal Select locking chain guide for bead chain loops sets the standard for durability of corded window shade solutions. The Metal Select chain guide has been tested by an independent testing laboratory for UV degradation, impact tolerance, and pull tests to meet the new standards. The Metal Select is manufactured with all metal components to provide a longer-term answer than industry standard plastic solutions."

I sleep better at night thanks to the metal select locking chain guide.  It is an excellent design for safety and it looks really cool.  A top of industry standard innovation to be sure.

We would love to help you beautify your public space while providing industry leading safety in your roller shade choice.  Also, be sure to check out our online roller shade calculator for a rough idea of what your project might cost.  Or, please use this contact form to describe your project with rough sizes, and we will gladly email you a rough estimate.

Silver Backed Roller Shades

Silver backed fabrics change the whole game when it comes to fabric color and performance for your roller shade.

Non-silver backed solar screen fabrics have some predictable performance characteristics- if you look at the chart below, you’ll see that typical light colored screens perform well at keeping a room cooler, with a lower shading coefficient overall, but they also fall to the right on the graph with a higher Visible Light Transmission.

Conventional solar screen fabrics in darker colors fall  far to the left, with very low VLT values, meaning that they reduce glare very well, but they also fall in the upper portion of the graph, showing higher shading coefficient values.

So what does this mean in plain English?  Well, darker shades are easier to see through - i.e. better visibility but are hotter because their color absorbs heat which gets transmitted inside your space.  Lighter shades are harder to see through - i.e. less visibility because the light will "glow" when it strikes the lighter fabrics which obscures the view.  However, the lighter color does not absorb heat as much, so less heat is transmitted into your space.

Here is the good news.  By using some sort of space age silver technology, these silver backed marvels allow for dark fabric which preserves view and then magically the heat gain is reduced by the silver on the back - which does not create a glow problem.  Again, if you can understand it, check out the silver fabrics on the chart below.

Or said more technically, "notice that all of the colors of both SilverScreen and EnviroScreen high performance fabrics fall into what we call the “silver sweet spot”… low on the Shading Coefficient axis and low on the Visible Light Transmission axis. Every color! Excellent performance in both areas (all three really, if you consider view-through a separate value). No compromise necessary. This is all due to the ultra-fine, reflective layer of silver backing on the solar fabric, which reflects away heat and light, allowing the interior to stay cool, glare free and maintain a great view and connection to the outdoors."
